St. Augustine coach Tim Winter has led the boys basketball team to 13 victories this season, but he might want to check the IDs on the guys wearing Yellow Jackets jerseys Tuesday night.
SAHS (13-4) couldn't take care of the ball and couldn't keep 6-foot,LangenCanada Goose jackets 50 off discount women canada goose coats online Shop. 10-inch center Justin McBride away from the rim in a 76-55 loss.
McBride scored 24 points, blocked four shots and altered countless others in a game Bradford dominated after halftime.
"That's not us," Winter said. "We've played (mostly) mistake-free basketball. Tonight was ugly.
"That's uncharacteristic for us."
The Jackets started the game looking like the composed, focused group Winter is used to seeing.
Despite McBride, who is listed at 325 pounds, getting some points in the paint, SAHS was sharp and efficient in the opening quarter.
SAHS led by as many as seven in the early minutes, shooting 7 of 12 from the field in the first quarter.
And there was no sign of being intimidated by Bradford's big man. Forward Richard Bryson even tried to dunk over McBride, but he couldn't quite finish on a play with some contact.
After that first seven minutes in which SAHS was ahead 19-12, nothing worked with any consistency for the Jackets.
Bradford (8-8) limited SAHS to three field goals in the second quarter and was up by three at halftime.
Bryson, who led SAHS with 16 points, and Te'Sean Glass each made a basket early in the third period as the Jackets took the lead back at 30-29.
That was the end of the momentum for SAHS, though.
Bradford countered with a 9-1 run and never trailed again. In fact, the Jackets never got closer than five the rest of the way.
McBride scored six points in the final two minutes of the third quarter, helping Bradford to a 16-4 run in that time.
Down 56-39 at the end of three quarters, SAHS never could threaten down the stretch.
"I don't think we ever really did anything right," Winter said. "We've run well. We just got out of control at times (tonight)."
Winter said the Jackets mostly handled McBride well, but there wasn't much they could do with a roster devoid of height. Nobody for SAHS is taller than 6-2 or 6-3.
"All of us had to change our shots," SAHS guard BJ Esguerra said. "We attacked and tried to get him in foul trouble, but he did a great job not fouling."
Deantre Burch added some scoring punch for Bradford, netting 16.
Other than Bryson, none of the Jackets could get on track offensively. Esguerra and Lamar Berk each finished with seven points.
Unlike last year's team with Matt Clark as a top scorer, this year's SAHS squad is usually more balanced. Winter isn't looking for Bryson or any other player to carry the load.
Until Tuesday, there have been plenty of players capable of taking advantage of scoring chances.
"We usually do a good job moving the ball," Winter said. "That's why I like this team so much is they trust each other."
Esguerra said he thinks the Jackets will get back to that when they return to action Friday against Wolfson.
"We'll use (tonight's loss) as motivation," he said. "We have six guys who can score 10-plus on any given night.
"Nobody cares who scores more. We just go out and play. It takes the pressure off."
