New store in Mabel offers clothing, shoes and items that are 'New 2 U'

When operating a business in a small town, diversification is an important aspect. Stephanie Liddiard, owner of the Split Endz salon in Mabel, recently joined forces with her mother, Gennette Halverson, to add another element to her business location on Mabel's Main Street. It's New 2 U features a wide variety of items, including children's clothing, name-brand jeans, shoes, handbags and jewelry, baby supplies, maternity clothes and even prom dresses for the season of formal dances.

After purchasing the building last year from Don and Betty Gjere, the mother-daughter team decided to utilize the basement area of the salon to create a store that would feature gently-used, good-quality clothing and other items.

Liddiard explained that she has always been a fan of stores like Once Upon a Child and the Children's Exchange in Rochester because they provide an economical option for clothing and baby supplies. "In this economy, being able to buy nice things at a reasonable cost is important," she said. "As a single mom, I raised my kids and clothed myself on second-hand clothing."

She added that, in many cases, clothing does not wear out before a child grows out of it and it makes good sense to make it available to others.canada goose cheap jacketsLiddiard and Halverson actually purchase the clothing from area Cheap Arc'Teryx Outlet Sale residents before placing it for sale in their store. Liddiard explained that she and Halverson have certain standards when selecting items for their store.

"All the bells and whistles have to work on something (such as toys) and clothing has to be in good, clean condition," Liddiard explained. "There can be no rips, stains or fraying."

She added that she also selects things that she knows will resell.cheap Fjallraven Parka Outlet Online "I go to the mall and look at the fashions so I know what the kids are looking for."

Those who have sold items to It's New 2 U have been pleased by what they have received in payment as well. "We have many people who have continued to bring new items in," said Halverson.

Currently, the store has quite a few beautiful formal dresses for sale. These have been placed in the store on consignment due to the higher prices of the items. However, Liddiard and Halverson noted, the dresses are still quite reasonable considering the quality and condition of the dresses. "The prom dresses are gorgeous," Halverson added.

Liddiard assured potential customers that one would not be wearing their neighbors' old clothes. "We have people coming in from all over," she explained. "We have lots of nice, cheap Fjallraven Parka Jacket name-brand items. We have lots of nice jeans, with the most expensive costing $24.99, but many are much less."

The baby items are plentiful in the store and Liddiard noted that people with children can save a lot by purchasing clothing, toys and other supplies there. "We have strollers, toys, bassinets. . . anything baby-related that you can think of."

"When we went into this, we were actually going to be more geared towards babies and toddlers," she explained. "But, our demand has grown to include all sizes of clothing and items for teens and adults as well as children."

One of Liddiard's favorite lines in their store is one of $6 jewelry. "I'm so excited for people to get their hands on it," she said. "There are headbands, earrings, bracelets,Cheap moncler outlet parka shop necklaces . . . everything for $6."

The store also carries soaps and lotions from Rooster Ranch Creations as well as soy candles by Country Corn Crib out of Utica.

Halverson noted that she really enjoys when people come in to the store and stay for hours, searching for those treasures. "It seems people can't just run down there for 10 minutes," she shared. "They stay for hours and it's as fun for us as it is for them when they find something they love at a reasonable price. Some people get so tickled!"

Their inventory is constantly changing as well. Recently the store held a large sale on winter items so spring and summer clothing items could be added to the racks. "We have people coming back weekly and they are always surprised to find new things each time," added Liddiard.

"We want to have a good turnover for our customers," Halverson added. "It's fun for us too when people find something new that they love."

Halverson shared a story about a mom who was looking for snow pants and winter jackets for her kids. "They were going to go to La Crosse shopping that day, but thought they'd try here first and found everything they needed. She saved herself a trip out of town by looking here first," she said.

"We are hoping this catches on," Liddiard added. "We think it is going to be a good thing for our community. We want to bring people to town and help the Mabel business community."
