Check out 2012 events in South Walton

South Walton, a strand of 15 beach neighborhoods along Northwest Florida's coast, has sent along a list of cultural activities and other events on the calendar for 2012:

New Arts & Culture Offerings

Carmike Cinema is currently building a 10-screen, 1,What are some new guccicaps coming out in 2009?800-seat movie theater at Grand Boulevard in the Sandestin neighborhood of South Walton. The new state-of-the-art theater is projected to open July 4, 2012, just in time for the line-up of summer blockbusters. Montecito 10 will also feature two special auditoriums: BIGD, which boasts a 60-foot-wide, three-story screen, and Ovation Club, an intimate 60-person theater that will offer a full food menu, beer and wine.

For years, musicians and music lovers have flocked to South Walton to take part in its thriving performing arts scene. On July 4, 2011, Tommy Jackson opened the First Note Music Hall in Santa Rosa Beach. Jackson developed First Note with the inspiration of a shuffling iPod; as many as eight artists take the stage each night, giving listeners a variety of music to enjoy in an intimate setting.

Each year, the South Walton Tourist Development Council (TDC) selects an artist to represent the destination and its thriving arts community. Allison Craft, South Walton's new 2012 Artist of the Year, crafts beautiful leather and pearl jewelry that perfectly represents South Walton—a strand of cherished beach neighborhoods connected like pearls along Northwest Florida's coast. While Allison's work can be found in shops throughout South Walton and the southeast, 30A Studio at Hibiscus Coffee & Guesthouse in Grayton Beach is home to her as well as three photographers. In conjunction with the annual 30A Songwriters Festival, taking place January 13-15, 2012, South Walton will unveil a custom song inspired by the destination. I want to expand my collection items and include other fashion items in my fashion lines."

Rolling back the Christmases

Christmas has become too commercial, we have lost the spirit of the season, and people are spoiling their children.

These are the familiar gripes about the celebration -- but has it really changed all that much over the decades?

Judging by the newspaper reports of the past half-century, the same concerns are raised year after year.

1960s YULETIDE ROAD RAGE

Ireland was going through a boom, but old traditions had survived.

In 1966, the Irish Independent noted that families were still putting a candle in the window on Christmas Eve, to show that there was a welcome for the Holy Family, who had been turned away from the inn.

Many familiar modern yuletide gripes were already in evidence.

In December 1966, Irish Independent writers complained of the "hustle and bustle of the modern Christmas''. Frances Condell said the traditional celebration was in decline as people faced the "never-ending shuffling and jostling from shop to shop".

Extravagant spending on presents was also deplored.

A 1966 Christmas editorial expressed concern about road rage: "What impulse led you to hoot your horn in a traffic jam, to flash lights in front of a tardy driver,There are many fake ralphlaurensweater that can cheat your money or sell fake branded watches. or to shoot impatiently past a slowcoach in front?"

John D Sheridan, in his popular Saturday column, explained how he could not handle the present buying: "Now when the number of shopping days can be counted on one hand, I find myself in a state of benign mental paralysis."

A typical small ad tried to appeal to lady shoppers by promising to turn their husbands into men of suave sophistication: "Frank Martin has inspired ideas to help you pick a Christmas gift for the man in your life. Peter England shirts, polo neck sweaters, Kilspinall knitwear, Bonsoir pyjamas, gloves.''

The ultimate present in 1969 was the bricklike Sony Compact Cassette-corder. Ads in the paper boasted that it was used to play music by the astronauts on the Apollo 10 Spaceship. You could not get any more modern than that.

1970s THE GREAT SMELL OF BRUT

As the boom came to an end, Irish consumers seemed to delight in buying the tackiest presents possible.

Top of the list for men were heavily-advertised aftershave and deodorants in bathroom gift sets.

In the Sunday Independent in 1978, a bemused Hugh Leonard advised readers how to react when they received a "toilet-set of particular repulsiveness''.

"Do not flinch; instead emit a series of gasps and cooing noises. Look the giver sincerely in the face and say: 'As long as there is breathing in my body I will never part with it.'"

In 1979,IWC watches are warranted by our valentinohandbag for a period of one year from the original date of purchase. the Ferguson Music Centre and futuristic quartz digital watch with red display were all the rage.

Parents, who were reported to be spending an average of 25 per child on toys, fretted about spoiling the children.

And Senator Gemma Hussey told The Irish Press: "There's a terrible lot that television advertising has to answer for. Mostly what they show the children is rubbish and it's a form of blackmail for parents.'' The columnist Mary McGoris was unhappy with "piped carols in supermarkets''.

In 1979 we may have been basking in the spiritual glow of the Pope's visit, but the country had changed during the decade.

The pre-Christmas fashion pages advised readers about "slinky black negligées'' and "naughty nighties".

Just before Christmas in 1979, a young Dublin band billed as The U2s arrived in England.

They were hoping to crack London.

"I want to replace the bands in the charts now, because I think we're better'' said the precocious lead singer, known as Bono Vox.

However, only nine paying punters turned up in Islington to watch them.

1980s SPARE A THOUGHT FOR THE MISTRESS

An editorial in the Irish Independent in the middle of the decade said: "Christmas is a time which still has a religious significance for most of the people in this country, even if the glossy glare of commercialism blinds us a little to the true significance."

Drunk driving was a lingering concern that was said to "cause havoc on the roads".

Church attendance may still have been high, but the country was not entirely monogamous. In 1986 in the Sunday Independent, Kate O'Neill urged us to spare a thought for the mistress at Christmas: "Mistresses get the loveliest Christmas presents and the lousiest Christmases . . . whether they weather the day alone in some flat filled with memories of him, or moon around at home with their parents -- who wonder how they managed to acquire a fur coat, but no engagement ring.''

1990s POWER RANGERS AND PCs

The Irish Independent reported on December 22, 1995 : "It's spend, spend, spend this Christmas and that's official."

The Dublin Chamber of Commerce reported the biggest spending spree in a decade. Parents splashed out on toys including Barney the Dinosaur,This privacy statement discloses the privacy practices for jacketswomens. Power Rangers and remote control fire engines.

"Home computers costing up to 2,000 are the popular choice for families, while mobile phone sales have gone through the roof.''

2000s CELTIC TIGER GLITZ

It already belongs to a bygone era of extravagance. It is hard to fathom now, but in the year 2000,See the top iwcwatchesshop from the best brands in the industry. eager students were prepared to attend a course in Christmas shopping in New York at Portobello College in Dublin.

Guided by social diarist Angela Phelan, they learned about where to buy Prada handbags, Ralph Lauren shirts and Hermes scarves.

By 2007, the last Christmas of the boom, a staggering 170,Thank you very much for shopping at goosejacket online store!000 people were airlifted to the Big Apple every year, stuffing their suitcases with over €170m of goods.

The country's enthusiasm for designer baubles at Christmas was only matched by its desire for over-the-top lighting displays.

The average suburban street turned into a mini-Las Vegas -- giant neon Santas, flashing reindeers and multi-coloured fairy lights in fibre-optic trees. The lights dimmed when recession came and the electricity bills had to be paid -- along with all the other debts.

Lady Jackets sink Seasiders

After building a 35-19 lead in the first half, the Montana State Billings women's basketball team managed to hold ending their five-day Hawaiian trek with a 67-54 win over Brigham Young University - Hawaii Monday night.

After four games in five days, the Yellowjackets are now 8-5 before and tip off Great Northwest Athletic Conference action after the holiday break. The Seasiders fall to 1-8.

"I feel like we played well tonight, especially in the first half," said head coach Kevin Woodin. "I felt like we created some very good transition buckets through our defense and rebounding. You have to give them (BYUH) credit as they came back in the second half, cutting our lead to three but I also have to give our players credit because they fought hard to regain momentum and finished strong."

The Lady Jackets hit 25 of their 76 shots (33%) from the field. Neither team shot well from three-point range, combining for just six. But the Yellowjackets registered 27 points off the Seasiders' 25 turnovers compared to 18 points off of 19 Yellowjacket turnovers for BYUH.

Kayleen Goggins and Bobbi Knudsen paced MSUB with 17 points each. Goggins had six rebounds while Knudsen had seven rebounds, five steals and four assists.

Janiel Olson had a team-high 10 boards while Quinn Peoples corralled in nine.

BYUH was slightly better from the field, hitting 36% (19-53) of their shots. Shayla Washington had a game-high 21 points to go along with 10 rebounds for a double-double while Brianna Jessop added 11 points. Danyele Hoffman had a game-high seven assists.

BYUH kicked off the game on a 9-5 run through the first five minutes, but from there it would be all MSUB in the opening stanza as the Yellowjackets scored 24 unanswered points until six minutes remaining in the half. The ‘Jackets continued to outscore the Seasiders 11-8 over the final six minutes, but the second half would once again see a slow start by MSUB.

"To play four games in five days and come out 3-1, it was very physically exhausting but good for our young players, especially ending with this win. After some good rest over the holiday break, we will be ready to jump into conference play."

The victory serves as the last non-conference matchup for MSUB, which will enjoy a break until the 29th. Then it's league action against Saint Martin's University Thursday, Dec. 29, before Western Oregon University travels to Billings, closing out the 2011 portion of their slate with a 1 p.m. tipoff on Dec. 31.

How To Have A Vogue Weekend: Winter Friendly Prints

To put it simply,IWC watches are warranted by our fakerolexsales for a period of one year. I'm a nineteen-year-old blogger with an unhealthy adoration for aesthetics and online shopping. I'll be sharing my tips, must haves, and weekly blogger girl problems as I mourn the loss of my paycheck. If you need a daily fix, you can find more of my musings here.

As jolly and memorable the holidays can be,uhrenwatchesstore for sale lowest price $50. winter is a time of neutral colors, chunky knits and frozen fingers. Florals aren't welcome in the closet of those that abide by the unwritten laws of fashion, and neither are tacky Christmas sweaters. If there's one thing everybody should be willing to embrace, though, it's plaid and fair isle. When you follow a number of boys on Tumblr, menswear begins to play a factor in both your wardrobe and your dressing. I can almost guarantee that my appreciation for camouflage jackets would be nearly non-existent if it weren't for a couple of particular menswear bloggers.

Details: Falke tights, Etoile Isabel Marant dress, All Saints leather jacket, assorted Essie nail polish, Madewell denim campsite shirt, Zara flat ankle boots, Flora by Gucci perfume, All Saints gasper snood,Intensify your own Grace with replicahublotwatchretailer. and the Madewell "The Railway" mini bag.

As previously stated, it's very easy to replicate the wardrobe of the goths from some of our favorite high school cliques with tartan print. It's important to work with colors other than black. Nonetheless, I couldn't help throwing in some leather. Try embracing your inner Man Repeller and layer the denim shirt underneath the leather jacket (keep both open) and the snood over the two. Complete the outfit with tights, a small bag, flat lace up ankle boots, and a girly perfume to contrast the slightly grungy ensemble.

Details: Metallic silver Cambridge satchel, Burkman Bros fair isle sweater, T by Alexander Wang silk pocket button down,This cheapchaneljewelle in berlin is one of the most renowned watches in the world. Kasil + Taylor skinny jeans,Our goodleddownlight2011 are the highest quality and most durable replicas available . Butter London nail lacquer, Romance by Ralph Lauren perfume, and the Night Driving flat.

Steal the fair isle sweater your boyfriend's grandmother bought him or get your own. I love this blue one from Park & Bond paired underneath a white collared shirt for a trendy prep-school effect. Give the rest of the outfit a relaxing touch by pairing it with skinny jeans, a pair of neutral loafers, and a satchel.

Other winter prints that deserve notable mentions include Breton stripes, Burberry's infamous plaid print, and neutral polka dots. Make sure to spice up your wardrobe a little with one of these prints, whether it's in your mittens or your blouse. Please refrain from coming off too holiday-spirited, though. Nobody wants to be that girl. Happy Holidays!
